Verification of Simulation with AURA

Within the scope of a cooperative test organized by the Danish company DELTA , a comparison between acoustic measurement and simulation was run for two rooms. Together with other simulation programs, also EASE participated in this test with its room-acoustical tool AURA.

In order to convey an impression of the reliability of the AURA simulations in EASE 4.1, the measurement and the simulation results obtained for one room are shown hereafter.

The room with a volume of about 1100 m³ has a measured reverberation time of approx 2 seconds with medium frequencies. As the wall structures were known, the absorption properties of the wall materials could be adapted to the natural conditions. Additionally there was a reasonable degree of dispersion assigned to the wall materials.

As sound sources served two spherical loudspeakers in the platform area (marked by blue symbols). Physical Measurement and simulation by AURA mapping were effected at five reception positions marked by red chair symbols in the room sketch. The measurement and simulation results per sound source were averaged over all five reception positions. The results obtained for early decay time EDT, reverberation time RT30, center time Ts, definition D and clarity measure C80 are shown hereafter by way of comparison.
